About Koji

I began gymnastics at age six and competed for 23 years. I also played baseball until age 14. As a professional gymnast, I:

- Earned World Championships Silver (2010)
- Won four World Cup medals
- Competed for the Japanese National Team six times

During my career, I worked closely with a sport psychology consultant who helped me achieve a world-first skill combination on the high bar.

We tracked:
- Visualization quality (Unclear 1-10 vividness)
- Arousal level (Calm 1–10 Nervous), 6 was the best arousal level for me.
- Under pressure performance in training (Poor 1-10 Best)
- Daily training behaviors (reluctant 1-10 willingness)

Through that process, I learned that physical, technical, and mental preparation must be trained with the same structure and intention.

Today, I help athletes build those same mental tools — not through motivational quotes, but through clear systems, reflective processes, and intentional action.

My journey into this field began during a difficult period in my gymnastics career. In 2011, I tore my ACL—a major injury that required surgery and along recovery. After returning to competition, my performances were inconsistent. A team doctor who had watched many of my meets gave me blunt feedback: “Koji, I think you're mentally weak. You always make mistakes at competitions.” I didn’t agree with him at the time, but his comment stuck with me. Eventually, I began working with a Mental Performance Consultant (Mental coach)—not because I believed I was weak, but because I realized I didn’t yet know how to train my mind like I trained my body.

Through that work, I learned how to manage my emotions, sharpen my focus, and trust myself under pressure. I built a detailed pre-performance routine: checking muscle tension, adjusting my breathing, and grounding myself with simple physical cues like shoulder circles and leg slaps. I’d scan my body to see if I felt ready. If I was too calm, I breathed quickly through my nose to boost energy. If I felt too nervous, I slowed down—breathing in through my nose and out through my mouth. These small adjustments helped me stay calm, focused, and confident. I was able to block out negative thoughts by staying focused on what I needed to do. As a result, I performed a world-first high bar combination—a moment that reshaped how I understood the mental side of sport.

I don’t believe I was ever mentally weak. I just didn’t have the tools. That realization drives my passion today: helping athletes build mental strength with the same structure and intention they apply to physical and technical training. Whether you're an aspiring young athlete or an elite competitor, I’m here to support your journey—not just toward better results, but toward deeper confidence, resilience, and purpose.
